Today marks 5th death anniversary of legendary Qawwal Amjad Sabri

The fifth death anniversary of legendary Qawwal Amjad Sabri is being observed on June 22 (today).
Amjad Sabri was born in Karachi, on 23 December 1970.
Amjad Sabri was the son of Ghulam Farid Sabri and nephew of Maqbool Ahmed Sabri of the Sabri Brothers, he emerged as one of South Asia’s most prominent qawwali singers.
Amjad Sabri has received Pride of Performance by Government of Pakistan.
Sabri was also awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, the Pakistan’s third highest civilian honour by President Mamnoon Hussain.
On June 22 2016, a group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan who had previously accused Sabri of blasphemy, targeted him in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area.
His assassination occurred near an underpass named after his father. Thousands of people attended Sabri’s funeral in Karachi.
A huge number or Karachi citizens and politicians said Fateha prayers and lit lamps to commemorate the departed soul.
