Three more children have died from malnutrition and epidemics in the Tharparkar district of Sindh.
The Health Department said, according to the media report, that this month’s number of killed children in Tharparkar has risen to 49 while this year’s number of children died in Tharparkar has reached 361.
Three children also died in Tharparkar on Monday while six children died from malnutrition last week.
According to sources from the health department, 77 children died in January during the first month of this year, 64 in February, 47 in March, 19 in April, and 63 in May.
Similarly, 505 children died of starvation and illness in 2018. In 2017 445 children died, in 2016 490, in 2015, in 2015 395 and in 2014 326.
It may be recalled that 50 percent of children under the age of five in Sindh face malnutrition, according to a survey released in 2019.
According to the National Nutrition Survey Study 2018, jointly released by UNICEF and the British High Commission, 40 percent of children under five are underweight in the province.
At the same time, 40 percent of the province’s boys and girls also suffer from anemia.
