KARACHI: Three Corolla cars were stolen from Bhittai Colony (Korangi Crossing) in Karachi in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to details, Ibrahim Hyderi police station sources said several cars had been stolen from Bhittai Colony in the last six months. Usually, the incident takes place between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM, in the early morning, they said. Most of the cars stolen from the area are of Corolla models between 2004 to 2009.
On Thursday, two Corolla cars were stolen from Sector D and one from Sector B of the area, which lies within the jurisdiction of Ibrahim Hyderi police station.
Owner of one car, Malik Safeer said his car was parked at a plot adjacent to his house. When they woke up in the morning they found that it had gone missing, he added. He said no surveillance camera was installed in the plot, however the CCTV camera of the house opposite to the plot must have recorded something. He said the CCTV footage could be obtained in the night as male members of the family had gone to their work by then and would return by night.
Safeer said some residents of the area believed that such thefts could not take place without connivance of police officials. He said it appeared as if an organised car-lifting gang was involved in it.
A couple of months ago, a resident Zahid Khan’s car was stolen in the same vicinity. He had parked his vehicle near Ibrahim Masjid.
