They feared I would appoint Lt Gen Faiz Hameed as army chief: Imran Khan
While addressing the Seminar, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that the parties in the coalition government were “afraid” he would appoint Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed as the next chief of army staff.
He said, “They were afraid that I wanted to appoint Lt Gen Faiz. They feared that if that would have happened then it would shatter their future.”
Addressing a ‘Regime Change’ seminar organized by PTI in Islamabad, Imran Khan said that the truth has come out of the mouth of Khurram Dastgir, his only goal is how to steal and how to prevent this theft, everything else is secondary.
“Khurram Dastgir said that Imran Khan was to keep his army chief and could not be removed for 15 years and there would be accountability for us,” he said.
Imran stated that, It should be noted that this means, if another army chief comes, their accountability will stop, it also means that they need their own army chief who will help them.
“I want to make it clear that I am appearing before Allah and saying that I never thought about who would be the next army chief in November, because that was not the problem, I had in mind that when the time comes I will nominate whoever on merit, I have never violated merit in my life.” Imran said.
He said that Nawaz Sharif always violated merit and brought the army chief of his choice because he needed it.
Imran further added that, they wanted to control any agency that posed a threat to their theft, so they are afraid of the army because ISI and military intelligence have their reports.
“Imran Khan does not want to save his corruption, he does not want to appoint his army chief,” said the PTI leader.
Khan said that the incumbent rulers claim that he wanted to appoint an army chief of his choice.
“I never thought of appointing someone as army chief. I have never taken a decision that is not based on merit.”
The PTI chairman berated the incumbent rulers for allegedly “murdering the institutions” and appointing “their people” to every institution.
“I never consider myself anti-American, we have a strong Pakistani-American community, we should never spoil relations with them, America is a superpower, most of our exports go to America,” he said.
