‘There is no U-turn’ Miftah Ismail clarifies salary hike confusion

Addressing a press conference, Miftah Ismail said that the salaries of federal government employees were increased in March, now the increase in salaries of government employees will be considered in the next budget.

He also said that legislation would be enacted in the next two to three days to raise the minimum wage to Rs 25,000 and an additional Rs 13 billion would have to be paid for pension assistance.

Miftah Ismail further said that it has not been decided yet whether the price of petrol will rise or not, we will see if OGRA submits summary.

Muftah Ismail also said that the IMF program will continue, the Governor SBP will retire in May, the Governor SBP will be decided by the Prime Minister.

“My name is on the Exit Control List (ECL) at the moment. I will meet the IMF. I will stick to the promises made by the previous government with the international financial institutions.” He added.

However, social media users slammed new government for their first U-turn on increment in salaries of government employees, to which Miftah Ismail issued a statement on micro-blogging website twitter.

“There is no U-turn. Since federal government employees’ salaries were raised a couple of months ago, we are not raising them again. However their salary issues will be considered in the next budget. Meanwhile we raised pensions of retired government employees. I hope this clarifies any confusion.” Miftah tweeted.
