LAHORE: Several weeks have passed since the government fixed the price of sugar at Rs 70 in Lahore, but sugar is still available in the open market at Rs 85-90 per kg. Most of the vendors have stopped keeping sugar to avoid government raids.
Rising sugar prices in Lahore have upset citizens. A commission was formed in this regard, the report came and the price of sugar was fixed at Rs. 70 per kg but it is available to the citizens at Rs. 90 per kg.
On the other hand, due to raids by the district government, sugar is not being sold at most shops in Lahore. Traders say that it is better not to sell sugar than to pay a fine of thousands of rupees.
According to agronomists, due to timely monsoon rains, sugarcane production is expected to be higher this time, which will keep sugar prices very low next year.
