Tezgam incident: Opposition demands Sheikh Rasheed to resign

The horrific Tezgam incident took more than 70 lives after a gas cylinder exploded in the train near Talwari station in Liaquatpur area of Rahim Yar Khan .

Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed said that more deaths occurred as people tried to escape from the burning train. He said,

“Most deaths occurred from people jumping off the train.”

Instead of accepting the negligence of the Railway authority, Rasheed blamed everything on the passengers. After the deadly Tezgam incident, opposition members, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Mustafa Kamal, Jibran Nasir and others demanded Rasheed to resign from his post.

Heart wrenching news from this morning. #tezgam tragedy must immediately be investigated and accountability ensured. Railway Minister stooping to a new low by victim blaming. outrageous as it is this minister who has the highest record of train accidents on his watch. 1/2

PM should keep his pre-election promise and sack the minister until investigation is complete. Will be leaving for Rahimyar Khan tomorrow on a pre-scheduled jalsa. Will inquire about the victims. Thoughts & prayers with the victims and their families. 2/2

Heart wrenching fire incident in #Tezgam took away over 70 precious lives. I would like to extend my deep sympathies & condolences with the families of victims. This incident should be investigated by Supreme Court & till the final outcome Railway Minister should resign.

— Syed Mustafa Kamal (@KamalPSP) October 31, 2019

We must demand accountability on #Tezgam disaster. Not another heartfelt speech but accountability. If Railways Minister doesn't have the decency to resign then PM should show some and sack him immediately. This was a preventable disaster. It only required better monitoring.

Gas cylinders are clearly prohibited items that cannot be booked as luggage. It is the responsibility of the railways to ensure these safety guidelines are followed by all. Sh. Rasheed placing the blame on passengers isn't just callous, it's also clearly wrong #Tezgam pic.twitter.com/2vx1oBOAiY

Beyond tragic. This kind of negligence is criminal. Pindi boy must be held accountable. The whole cabinet is a sham. No minister has a clue as to how to do their job. #RahimYarKhan #tezgam https://t.co/D08EliqZES

#RahimYarKhan #TrainAccident of #tezgam is almost similar in magnitude to bombings of #Samjotha by #Indian military. Have we preserved evidence to rule out terrorist act by hostile intelligence agencies? Or is #sheikhrashid too quick to blame #Pakistanis for their own death? https://t.co/mYiXTaqNii

Terrible Tezgam train tragedy with gas cylinder carried by passenger exploding. Prayers and condolences go to the victims families. A tragedy that could have been avoided but ever since I can recall while travelling by train no baggage check or restrictions enforced. Tragic.
