Tezgam incident: Divisional Deputy Superintendent Karachi suspended
KARACHI: Three months after the incident, the railway authorities have finally taken action after fire broke out in Tezgam Express, Karachi.
Last year, on October 31, 2019, 75 people were killed and 40 were injured when a fire broke out in three bogies of Tezgam Express near Liaquatpur, Tehsil of Rahim Yar Khan.
Chairman of Railways issued orders to suspend divisional deputy superintendent of Karachi on the directives of the Ministry of Railways after the Supreme Court ruled out the Federal Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on railway accidents.
Earlier, on November 5, 2019, six officers of Grade 17 and 18 were also suspended, including Karachi Division’s Commercial Officer Junaid Aslam, Assistant Commercial Officers Abid Qamar Sheikh, Rashid Ali, Ehsanul Haq, Karachi and Sukkur Division. The superintendents include Railway Police Dilawar Memon and Habibullah Khattak.
