Telephonic conversation between PM Imran and President Xi Jinping

Prime Minister Imran Khan communicated with China’s President Xi Jinping via telephone call on Tuesday (today). Talks on many important topics were exchanged including CPEC and the current situation of Afghanistan.
Pakistan and China have urged the international community to offer prompt humanitarian and economic support to the people of Afghanistan in order to ease their suffering, avoid instability and migration, and to remain engaged in the country’s reconstruction.
They agreed to significantly develop bilateral economic and commercial ties, including fully realising the potential of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement Phase II.
PM Imran Khan congratulated President Xi on the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people’s remarkable success in the struggle to eliminate extreme poverty, and praised China’s great progress during four decades of reform and opening up.
The two leaders also agreed to boost Pakistan-China cooperation in key sectors and support CPEC’s green development as a high-quality representation of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The two leaders also congratulated each other on the 70th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic ties, reviewed the whole scope of the bilateral strategic cooperative relationship, and addressed the regional and international situation.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister praised China’s effective control of the Covid-19 epidemic, as well as relief and aid efforts for poor nations, including vaccine collaboration with Pakistan.
PM Imran Khan hailed Chinese investments in CPEC Special Economic Zones, emphasising that an early start on the ML-1 railway project will complement Pakistan’s geoeconomic agenda for national and regional growth.
According to the statement, he praised China’s leadership role in combatting climate change and informed President Xi on Pakistan’s extensive climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts, including the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project.
PM Khan emphasised the importance of maintaining the momentum of high-level exchanges to further diversify the two countries’ “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” according to the statement, adding that the Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Xi to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
