“Sudden U-turn by Pakistan Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is unconstitutional”: Saim Sadiq

Joyland’s director Saim Sadiq claimed that the movie got seen and certified by all three censor boards in August 2022.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting declared the internationally acclaimed film Joyland ‘uncertified’ for containing ‘highly objectionable content’.

Many showbiz stars condemned the ban on the film and demanded from the Government of Pakistan to release the film in cinemas.

Taking to Instagram, Joyland’s director Saim Sadiq addressed the issue and wrote, “we as a team are gutted by this development but fully intend to raise our voice against this grave injustice”.

Saim claimed that his film got cleared by all three censor boards in August 2022. “I am compelled to point out that this sudden U-turn by the Pakistan Ministry of information and Broadcasting is absolutely unconstitutional and illegal. Our film got screened and certified by all three censor boards in August 2022”.

He further wrote, “the Ministry suddenly caved under pressure from a few extremist factions who have not seen the film and made a mockery of our federal censor board by rendering their decision irrelevant”.

Saim Sadiq urged people that “please help us in by getting our voice to Release Joyland seen and heard by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb”.
