SSGC suspends gas supply to industries in Karachi

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has shared plans to suspend gas supply to industries across the port city from November 15 (tomorrow) to ensure gas availability to residential customers.
“In adherence to the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) gas load management plan, that places domestic and commercial customers on top of the priority list, it has been decided to suspend gas supply to all general industries from November 15 to February 28, 2023,” a statement issued by the gas company read.
The spokesperson of SSGC said that, “our first priority is to provide gas to domestic customers, but we hope the crisis will not be too severe.”
On the other hand, Sui Northern’s spokesperson said that the company’s system is still normal and under control and supplying gas to all stakeholders. He further warned that gas load-shedding may be scheduled in December when demand increases.
Reacting to Sui Southern’s decision, the member of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Zubair Motiwala, said that the gas supply suspension will seriously disrupt the industrial production.
“The industries are in a state of shock to receive SSGCL’s notices of gas closure starting from November 15, 2022, to February 28, 2023,” the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and seven other industrial town associations said in a joint statement.
