Special PIA flight brings back 284 Pakistanis stuck in Turkey
The special flight of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) returned carrying Pakistanis trapped in Turkey.
284 stranded Pakistanis have returned home in Turkey via PIA flight PK-784, according to the details.
When the flight landed at Islamabad International Airport, it screened and medically checked all incoming passengers in compliance with the rules and regulations.
Samples of all passengers have been taken following precautionary measure of coronavirus, according to airport reports.
Special medical teams have transferred the passengers to the quarantine centre, source said.
PIA was approved for the first time in Pakistan’s history to operate direct flights to the United States (US).
Earlier, PIA Air Marshal CEO Arshad Malik requested permission to operate special PIA flights to carry back stuck Pakistanis in the U.S. due to outbreak of coronavirus.
In a letter to the US ambassador and the State Department, he applied for the special flight service.
The permission was given by the U.S. Department of Transport on request from Pakistan to repatriate its stranded U.S. citizens.
The US allows for as many as 12 direct flights to PIA to carry back stranded Pakistanis according to the data.
