ISLAMABAD: A special court in Islamabad has directed former president general (retd) Pervez Musharraf to record his statement in one week (by December 5) in the high treason case.

Resuming the hearing on Thursday, the special court, headed by Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth, said that it was not obliged to follow the high court’s orders. The court said only Supreme Court could issue it an order. This, the special court, said in reference to the Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s direction to halt the court verdict scheduled to be announced on Thursday (today). However, the court refused to comment on the IHC ruling.

The hearing in the high treason case has been adjourned till December 5.

Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth said the prosecution team should come with full preparation for the next hearing as no further time would be provided.

The high court had approved the plea of the interior ministry to stop verdict of Musharraf treason case. It had directed the special court to announce its verdict after hearing Pervez Musharraf’s argument.

On Nov 25, two petitions were filed in a special court in Islamabad to stop the verdict against the former president and army chief in the high treason case.
