Mr. Speaker you are violating the Constitution and order of the Supreme Court: Bilawal Bhutto
The National Assembly session, chaired by Speaker Asad Qaiser, began with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by Naat and then the National Anthem.
Members of the National Assembly have already taken their seats in the National Assembly for today’s important session. There are 51 members of the government in the National Assembly session but Prime Minister Imran Khan has not reached the assembly hall yet.
Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser while presiding over the meeting said that he would take action as per the decision of the Supreme Court.
Today Parliament is going to defeat the selected Prime Minister, says Shahbaz Sharif
Opposition leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif has said that today the parliament is going to make a new history and defeat the selected Prime Minister constitutionally.
Speaking in the National Assembly session, Shahbaz Sharif said that the day before yesterday was a glorious day in the history of Pakistan, when the court annulled the unconstitutional move of Speaker, Deputy Speaker and PM Imran Khan and buried the doctrine of necessity.
“For this, all of us and the entire nation are prostrating before Allah Almighty, for which the nation salutes the leadership of the entire united opposition, as a result of whose struggle the nation was fortunate to see this day.” Shahbaz said.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that he requested the House to conduct proceedings today in accordance with the order of the Supreme Court. Just forget about what happened in the past, bit now stand up for the decision of the Constitution, the law and the Supreme Court today, play the role of a true speaker today.
Opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif also read out the decision of the Supreme Court in the National Assembly.
Statement of Shah Mehmood Qureshi:
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that it was the right of the opposition to present the movement and it was our right to defend it.
“Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister said that he was disappointed with the verdict of the court but accepted the verdict with a heavy heart. Pakistan’s history is full of violations of the Constitution. The Constitution was violated on October 12, 1999 when the apex court gave a right of amendment to dictator of which the history is also a witness.” Shah Mehmood said.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi further said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Shahbaz Sharif made statements that they will not doctrine of necessity, I am happy that our democracy has grown and no one is ready to accept the doctrine of necessity.
Foreign Minister explained why SC took suo moto notice? He said, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri did not deny the constitutional process, he said that a new situation has come, we are facing foreign conspiracy so the session must be adjourned indefinitely.
Referring to the alleged threatening letter, the Foreign Minister said that the National Security Committee, after looking at the letter, declared it a serious issue and then the State Department ordered the US Ambassador to de-marsh.
When Shah Mehmood Qureshi started talking about the threatening letter, the opposition protested and said that the Foreign Minister was talking about the threatening letter again. Today’s agenda includes only the no-confidence motion.
Opposition members, led by Shahbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, took their seats and demanded a vote on a no-confidence motion. After the commotion of the opposition, the government benches started chanting slogans and meanwhile the Speaker National Assembly adjourned the sitting till 12:30 pm.
NA session resumes:
Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser had adjourned the meeting till 12:30 pm but after a delay of three and a half hours, the meeting resumed at 2:30 pm.
When the meeting resumed after the break, Shah Mehmood Qureshi in his speech said that you want to wear the shackles of slavery, we are not in favor of any aggression, we believe in international law.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that we demonstrated this policy in the General Assembly, we said that we will play a role in peace, not in conflicts, who knows better than the United States that how much Pakistan has sacrificed because of terrorism. We also had and still have good relations with Ukraine.
He further said that it is not in our interest to spoil anyone, America wants us to support them on every issue which is important for America. Isn’t Kashmir genocide an issue? We asked the US to play a role in the Kashmir issue but they replied with “no” and the US said it is a bilateral issue.
The Foreign Minister said that they (opposition) kept saying for three and a half years that elections should be held, Imran Khan was called selected and today Imran Khan has asked for elections, now go to the people and let the people decide, it is called democracy.
They want crisis, dictatorship, military role: Bilawal Bhutto
Addressing the National Assembly session, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the Speaker is violating the court order, he will have to face the consequences, this is not the first time that the court has rejected the Speaker’s ruling under the order, and a no-confidence vote is to be held today. The undemocratic and unconstitutional proposal given to the Prime Minister is a conspiracy to wrap up democracy.
“If the voting did not take place as per the court order, then the opposition members will not leave the assembly. The court has ordered that you have to cast your vote today. Mr. Speaker, if you want to be involved in this crime, you will.” Bilawal added.
He further said that they have been selected before and want to be re-elected, they have already benefited and want to be benefited again. Imran Khan knows that if there is a transparent election, they cannot win. They want crisis, spectacle, dictatorship, military role, let the captain fly on his stubbornness.
The decision of the Supreme Court is interference in the affairs of Parliament, Asad Umar
Speaking in the National Assembly, Federal Minister Asad Umar said that, they have been calling each other thieves for 20 years, what kind of democracy is this? A dissident member said life will be very good with 23 crores, is this democracy?
Asad Umar further said that why the no-confidence motion was introduced only after the threatening letter was received, one theory says that beggars cannot be choosers, another theory says that the country of 220 million self-reliant people is no less than any other, we have to decide which direction the country should go.
I agree with Bilawal Bhutto that the solution will come from the vote not from the speeches, the solution will come from the vote, but not from the vote of the conscience traders, from the vote of the people of Pakistan.
Asad Umar said that the decision of the Supreme Court is to interfere in the affairs of the Parliament. Would it have been right for the Parliament to interfere in the work of the Supreme Court? If we believe in democracy then it is necessary to believe in the supremacy of Parliament, the House should unite and raise its voice. The power of parliament belongs to no one else.
On this occasion, the Speaker assured Asif Zardari that he would abide by the order of the Supreme Court.
Situation before the National Assembly session:
Before the National Assembly session, a meeting of the parliamentary leaders of the united opposition was held in which 176 members including Shahbaz Sharif, Asif Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Maulana Asad Mahmood and Akhtar Mengal participated.
After receiving the written order of the Supreme Court, the Secretariat of the National Assembly had withdrawn the order to adjourn the sitting of the Deputy Speaker indefinitely.
The agenda includes voting on a no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan. Under Article 95, there will be a vote on a no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan on the resolution of opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif.
