Six more die as heavy monsoon rains hit Karachi

At least six people lost their lives in rain-related incidents on Friday as heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Karachi, bringing up the toll in three days to 14.
In Gadap area of Karachi, along with Lath River (dam), flood situation has arisen in various drains of the city.
Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that three people drowned due to flood from spillover of Lath Dam in Gadap City. One of the citizens swam to safety while the body of a drowning youth has been recovered. However, the search for the other person is ongoing.
SSP Malir said that two youths drowned due to severe flood in Sikhan Nala in Yar Muhammad Goth area of Shah Latif Town.
He said locals rescued one of the youths, identified as 15-year-old Yadash, while another was being searched and his name was identified as 12-year-old Ali Jan.
The SSP further said that there was flood situation in Gadap, Steel Town, Memon Goth, Shah Latif Town and Sikhan as the Malir River flows through these areas.
People living along the Malir River are being relocated to avoid possible loss of life, the officer said.
Garden police said that Rehman, 20, was electrocuted at a dairy shop near Azam Plaza and his body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
SSP Korangi Faisal Bashir Memon said in a statement that there was heavy flow of rain water on Korangi Crossing River and Korangi Causeway where police and rescue teams had allocate temporary barriers to save the lives of citizens but the water level was high. The flow can also overcome these obstacles.
