Makkah Terrace to be demolished in a month, order given by the Sindh High Court.
After Supreme Court’s order to demolish Nasla Tower and Tejori Heights, Sindh High Court has taken the same route to combat the illegal structures, buildings, constructions and encroachment.
As per the details, Sindh High Court has ordered to demolish Makkah Terrace within one month. This building is located near Preedy Street, the locality of Saddar Karachi. It was constructed in 2016, and according to SBCA, 20% of the land is made on illegal land. The building consists of 16 apartments in total where multiple families live.
Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput ordered the director-general of the Sindh Building Control Authority to compile the list of all those corrupt offices and present them in the court on the next hearing.
Court added that they want names of corrupt officers, it does not matter if they are dead, alive or retired. Court has instructed the director-general to mention the details of those corrupt officers who let the construction of the illegal building happen.
Justice Zafar angrily told that demolition of the structures of these buildings is the only option left for them. He asked the representative of SBCA that why no arrest or action was taken against the officials who let the illegal constructions happen. Justice Zafar also said that the builder of Makkah Terrace was arrested? To which the representative replied that an investigation will be launched. After hearing the reply, Justice Zafar angrily asked the SBCA representative that whether they were sleeping all this time?
Justice Zafar Ahmed further stated that the corrupt officials will be held accountable, their audit will be done by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) if needed. Justice Ahmed of Sindh High Court also ordered that until the investigation is done, no new appointments can be made within the department.
