Sindh govt makes agreement to provide solar power to 200,000 houses

KARACHI: The Sindh government has made an agreement to illuminate 200,000 houses of the province with solar power to overcome energy crisis with clean and environment-friendly energy projects.
Provincial Minister of Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh said that initially 10 districts of Sindh including Sujawal, Badin, Mithi, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Khairpur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad and Qambar Shahdad Kot districts will be illuminated with solar power.
He said that this eco-friendly energy project was being carried out in collaboration with the World Bank.
Separately, the World Bank country director and Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah also discussed $187 mn project ‘Aggregate Agriculture Productivity Enhancement’ in a meeting. Murad said that so far $10.6 mn had been released for the project, under which different projects of agriculture and irrigation departments had started.
They also exchanged views on Sindh Stunting Program and Karachi Neighbourhood Improvement Program.
The chief minister said that under the Karachi Neighbourhood Improvement Program a parking lot and a sitting place was constructed near the new Sindh Secretariat building.
