KARACHI: The Sindh government has introduced new number plates for vehicles with multiple security features across the province.
The number plates have been prepared in cooperation with the NRTC.
Sindh Excise and Taxation Department will start issuing the vehicle registration plate phase wise from November this year. Sindh E&T Department Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that in the first phase the new vehicles will get the number plates, then in the next phase the vehicles which will be transferred on another owners name will get the plates, after that people would be asked to voluntarily replace their number plates with the new ones.
He said it would not be possible to forge a number plate like this as it would have a chip installed in it with complete data of the vehicle. The motorway police and traffic police in the cities would be able to check data of the vehicles through the speed gun as the technology would improve, he added.
The number plate has a layer of ajrak design and logo of Quaid’s Mausoleum.
Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that the provincial cabinet had given green light for installation of the plates with several security features.
About seven million vehicles were registered with the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department across the province, he apprised.
