Sindh faces worst Diarrhea, Dysentery outbreak
In Sindh, 200,000 children fell victim to diarrhea and dysentery in two months and 3 children lost their lives. A diarrhea outbreak has been reported in Sindh’s Hyderabad, Tando Muhmmad Khan and Sujawal after dozens of people were admitted in the hospitals.
According to the Sindh Health Department, 78,881 children under the age of five and 85,104 children over the age of five suffered from diarrhea in the province.
Dysentery has affected 9,442 children under the age of five and 12,703 children over the age of five. In addition, more than 182 cases of cholera have been confirmed in the province.
According to the health department, three children have lost their lives to diarrhea so far. 80 percent cases of diarrhea have been reported in different districts of Sindh. The highest number of cases have been reported in Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sujawal and Khairpur.
One death has been reported from diarrhea in Jamshoro, Kemari and Umerkot each.
Health experts say that the increase in the intensity of heat and poor sanitation are the reasons for the increase in cases.
