Shershah building owner and planners booked after blast claims 17 lives
Karachi: The total death toll of the blast that occurred in a drain in Shershah rose to 17 as rescue personnel find two more bodies buried in the rubble, Sunday morning. The police has booked the owner of the facility and those responsible for its illegal construction as the building collapsed on Saturday.
The cause of the explosion was the accumulation of gasses in the underground drainage system which left nearly three dozen men buried in the debris.
Rescue organizer and doctors were able to save 11 other lives and other representatives reported that the explosion happened because there was no way left for the gasses to escape into the environment.
In the FIR (449/2021) registered against suspects accountable for the building’s illegal construction and owner under several charges of manslaughter, it is stated that the blast took place on 1:45pm on Saturday near a Habib Bank Ldt. branch on East Avenue Road Shershah Chowk.
