Shehbaz Sharif’s name placed on ECL: Sheikh Rasheed
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Monday said Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s name had been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
“Marine and aerial organisations have been informed about the decision. Permission to Shehbaz to go abroad may affect the ongoing case against him,” the interior minister said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.
He said the PML-N president did not submit any medical document and if he was allowed to go abroad he might influence the approver. Shehbaz was fleeing himself instead of bringing Nawaz back, he maintained.
Sheikh Rasheed said that all the suspects in the case were on the ECL, but the leader of the opposition in National Assembly. Five members of his family were already fugitive, he added.
Neither did he appoint a representative for himself in the court, nor he made an appeal to the court in this regard, he said.
To a query, he said that Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa had said that the military establishment was behind the elected government.
On Apr 22, 2021, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had approved Shehbaz Sharif’s bail in assets beyond means case.
On Oct 20, 2020, an accountability court of Lahore had sent Shehbaz Sharif on judicial remand in money laundering and assets beyond means case.
Hearing the case, the court had however rejected plea of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for 14-day physical remand.
