SHC berates DHA, CBC in case pertaining to monsoon rain

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday took Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) and Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to task for their negligence and incompetency in clearing water from areas lying within their jurisdiction after the monsoon rains last year.
The high court said that performance of the organisations was worse than that of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and other local bodies organisations.
The bench hearing the petition filed against the said organisations remarked that the city had inundated and the concerned officials did not even bother about it.
The CBC counsel apprised that the sites where water was accumulated more had been identified.
The SHC said asked the organisations if they had any plan to cope with such rainfalls which were extremely likely to happen due to the climate change.
“Why water drainage pumps were not set up on arteries?” the court said calling out their measures a cosmetic work. The relevant authorities have been directed to prepare a comprehensive report and submit it by June 4. Until then, the case has been adjourned.
