Shakira could face 8 years in jail for tax fraud in Spain

Spanish media reported that world-famous singer Shakira may face 8 years in prison as recommended by the Spanish public prosecutors in the tax fraud case.
According to foreign media reports, Shakira, a renowned singer from Colombia, has rejected an offer to settle a tax fraud case against her. According to the news agency, Shakira is accused of failing to pay 14.5 million euros in taxes on earned income. The artist has sold more than 80 million records worldwide with her classic hit like “Hips Don’t Lie.”
Shakira claims she did not reside in Spain between 2012 and 2014, although she is accused of neglecting to pay taxes during that time. According to a prosecutor’s paperwork, Shakira lived in Spain regularly between 2012 and 2014. In May 2012, she purchased a residence in Barcelona that she and her partner used to raise their kid, who was born there in 2013.
The latest development in the tax case comes when Shakira and her husband, FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, announced their separation.
The representatives of Shakira said, “the singer is fully confident of her innocence” and that she considers the case “a total violation of her rights”. No date for a trial has been set yet.
