Shahnawaz Amir’s mother arrested in Sarah Inam murder case

The Islamabad Police on Wednesday arrested Sameena Shah, mother of prime suspect Shahnawaz Amir in Sarah Inam murder case, after District and Sessions court dismissed her bail plea.
Additional Sessions Judge Sohail Sheikh rejected the bail plea of Sameena Shah after which law enforcement agencies arrester her.
The plaintiff’s lawyer took the position that Sameena Shah was named as a suspect after her controversial statements.
“The suspect cannot escape, she had come to know about the murder,” lawyer added.
Lawyer Rao Abdul Rahman argued in the court that according to the police record, the suspect Sameena Shah should not be granted further pre-arrest bail.
The court rejected the bail petition of the Sameena Shah, after which the police of Shehzad Town police station arrested her outside the court room.
A local court in Islamabad had earlier granted interim bail, which was later extended, on a bail petition filed by Sameena Shah, the mother of prime suspect Shahnawaz Amir.
The case:
On September 23, Pakistani-Canadian national Sarah Inam Khan was brutally murdered by her husband Shahnawaz Amir, who is the son of renowned journalist Ayaz Amir, with a dumbbell at farmhouse in Islamabad.
He confessed to committing the crime and said that he “thought” his spouse was having an affair with someone else.
The FIR:
An FIR was registered against Shahnawaz in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad police station under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of Pakistan on the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Nawazish Ali Khan.
The complaint said that on September 23, Samina Shah, the mother of the accused, called the police and told them that Shahnawaz Amir, son of journalist Ayaz Amir, had killed his wife with a ‘dumbbell’.
The FIR quoted Samina’s statement that, “my son was present in the house and had hidden the body,” after which the police raided the house.
The police said that the suspect had locked himself in his room. When the police entered, they found blood stains on Shahnawaz’s hands and clothes.
The police further informed that the suspect then confessed that he repeatedly hit his wife with a dumbbell during a heated argument and then hid her body in the bathtub of the washroom.
According to the FIR, Shahnawaz also said that he had hidden the murder weapon under his bed.
“On examining the dumbbell, the police found blood stains and hairs on it,” the FIR added.
