Shahnawaz Amir confesses to killing wife Sarah Inam

The prime suspect Shahnawaz Amir has confessed to killing his Pakistani-Canadian national wife Sarah Inam, according to a charge sheet submitted by Islamabad police to the sessions court.
According to the challan, Shahnawaz told police that before few days of the heinous act he divorced Sarah after a heated conversation on the phone.
After the divorce, Sarah Inam came from Abu Dhabi to the farmhouse of prime suspect Shahnawaz on September 22, police said.
The suspect told the police that she started arguing with him in the bedroom that night and demanded to return the money she had sent to him.
Shahnawaz furthered that he first hit Sarah with a showpiece and when she started making noise he killed her with a dumbbell.
The case:
On September 23, Pakistani-Canadian national Sarah Inam Khan was brutally murdered by her husband Shahnawaz Amir, who is the son of renowned journalist Ayaz Amir, with a dumbbell at farmhouse in Islamabad.
He confessed to committing the crime and said that he “thought” his spouse was having an affair with someone else.
The FIR:
An FIR was registered against Shahnawaz in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad police station under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of Pakistan on the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Nawazish Ali Khan.
The complaint said that on September 23, Samina Shah, the mother of the accused, called the police and told them that Shahnawaz Amir, son of journalist Ayaz Amir, had killed his wife with a ‘dumbbell’.
The FIR quoted Samina’s statement that, “my son was present in the house and had hidden the body,” after which the police raided the house.
The police said that the suspect had locked himself in his room. When the police entered, they found blood stains on Shahnawaz’s hands and clothes.
The police further informed that the suspect then confessed that he repeatedly hit his wife with a dumbbell during a heated argument and then hid her body in the bathtub of the washroom.
According to the FIR, Shahnawaz also said that he had hidden the murder weapon under his bed.
“On examining the dumbbell, the police found blood stains and hairs on it,” the FIR added.
Who was Sarah Inam?
The 37-year-old Sarah Inam belonged to a well-rounded background with a strong professional experience in the Gulf region, Pakistan, and Canada.
Sarah was born in Libya and went to school in Libya and Islamabad.
Sarah received her Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Economics and Business from the University of Waterloo in Canada. She then received her Master’s degree from the same university.
She had also done internships at the University of Waterloo and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
Inam started her career as a junior economist at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Later, she moved to Abu Dhabi and worked for Deloitte as a public policy consultant for four years.
She also worked with the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge.
