Shahbaz wants Rana Tanvir to replace him as PAC chairman

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has convened a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Nov 28 for the election of its new chairman.
Pakistan Muslim League-N President Shahbaz Sharif has resigned from the chairmanship of the committee before heading to London. He has nominated his party leader MNA Rana Tanvir to replace him as PAC chairman. Asad Qaiser has accepted the resignation submitted by the leader of the opposition.
“I would like to propose that MNA Rana Tanvir may be considered for this position as decided by the joint opposition parties,” he wrote in his resignation letter to the NA speaker. While, Dawn newspaper has quoted a senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader as saying that the PML-N did not consult for a new name for the post.

However, he said, the PPP agreed that the PAC chairman should be from the PML-N for it was the largest opposition party. He said the opposition parties should have been consulted on the matter of nomination on the position.
It is pertinent here to mention that the PAC had been nonfunctional for the past six months as no meeting of the committee was being convened by its chairperson.
Shahbaz Sharif is accompanying his brother and ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif on his visit to London for medical treatment. They, along physician Adnan Khan and two servants, had arrived in London for medical assistance via an air ambulance on evening of Nov 19.
The air ambulance had a stopover in Doha where it refuelled and fresh medical and air crew boarded on the ambulance.
Lahore High Court had, in a verdict, had waived the condition placed by the government to sign an indemnity bond before Nawaz’s going abroad and just made him submit an affidavit in this regard.
