QUETTA: At least seven people were killed and 20 others were wounded in a bomb blast in Quetta outside the Quetta Press Club near Shahrae Iqbal on Monday.
Rescue officials arrived and shifted the injured and dead to hospital for medical assistance and to perform medico-legal formalities respectively, while emergency has been declared in the nearby hospitals. Security personnel have cordoned off the area.
Noise of the blast was heard far and wide in the city. Glasses of the nearby buildings were shattered. Nature of the blast could not be ascertained though, as per the initial report. The local administration has put the security on high alert.
The blast was apparently targeted at the supporters of a religious organisation protesting outside the press club, who were later dispersed.
The incident has taken place at a time when the provincial government is planning to turn the metropolis into a safe city.
