Senior Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif shot down in Kenya, confirms wife

Senior Pakistani journalist, writer, anchorperson Arshad Sharif has been brutally shot down in Kenya’s capital of Nairobi.
The family of well-known journalist and senior anchor person Arshad Sharif has confirmed that the journalist has been shot dead in Kenya.
Taking to Twitter Arshad Sharif’s wife Javeria Siddique said, “I lost friend, husband and my favourite journalist Arshad Sharif today, as per police he was shot in Kenya.”
In her tweet, she appealed, “Respect our privacy and in the name of breaking please don’t share our family pics, personal details and his last pictures from hospital.”
The authorities of both countries have not yet confirmed the cause of Arshad Sharif’s death, a few Pakistani media houses had earlier reported that Arshad Sharif had been shot dead but later said that his death was an accident.
Notably, Arshad Sharif was a fierce critic of the current government and establishment, at the beginning of this year, sedition cases were filed against him in various cities after which he left Pakistan.
In Pakistan, Arshad Sharif was associated with the private channel ‘ARY News’ for a long time. Salman Iqbal, CEO of ARY News also extended his condolences.
He wrote in his tweet that, “I still can’t believe it. I am speechless. May Allah SWT grant him highest place in Jannah. Aameen.”
President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, political leaders, and the Journalists fraternity extended their condolences to the Sharif family after his demise.
President Dr. Arif Alvi termed the death of Arshad Sharif as a great loss for journalism and Pakistan and wrote in his tweet that, “May his soul rest in peace and may his family, which includes his followers, have the strength to bear this loss.”
Taking to twitter, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his condolences to the family of martyred Anchorperson Arshad Sharif.
“I am deeply saddened by the shocking news of journalist Arshad Sharif’s tragic death. May Allah SWT grant him a place in Heaven. My deep condolences and prayers for the bereaved family,” he wrote.
Condolences pour in
On August 08 this year, the police have booked senior journalist Arshad Sharif, President and CEO of ARY Digital Network Salman Iqbal, Head of News and Current Affairs Imad Yusuf, anchorperson Khawar Ghaman and PTI leader Dr Shehbaz Gill over a controversial interview aired on private news channel.
A day later, the Interior Ministry revoked the channel’s NOC certificate citing ‘adverse reports from agencies’ as the reason for the decision, after which Arshad Sharif left the country.
Later, ‘ARY News’ announced without citing any specific reason that it had ‘parted ways’ with Arshad Sharif and expected that the behavior of its employees on social media would be in line with the organization’s rules.
