On Monday the Supreme Court (SC) overturned its judgment of opening markets and shops during the country’s coronavirus crisis on Saturdays and Sundays.

On May 18, Pakistan’s Chief Justice (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed wondered why shopping malls were being asked to remain closed when markets opened.

He also ordered all shops to be opened, adding that it makes no sense to close them on weekends.“Did the coronavirus tell the authorities that it only affects people on the weekend?” the CJP asked.

During today’s hearing, the attorney-general told the court that the government took measures to ensure follow-up to coronavirus SOPs.

The SC also summoned NDMA reports on the amount of protective suits, gloves, and ventilators imported from outside the world.
