MULTAN: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday said without independent judiciary issues in the country could not be resolved.
“Until democracy is not independent, how will issues be resolved? Until there is no freedom of speech, how could you find solution to the problems,” Bilawal Zardari asked while addressing at the High Court Bar Association ceremony in Multan.
He said former president Asif Zardari had served jail sentence without any conviction earlier as well. While, former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged to death in Rawalpindi and former PM Benazir Bhutto was also assassination in Rawalpindi.
He said the PPP faced fake cases and bore oppression. Our country’s system mostly supported oppressor and not the downtrodden, he maintained.
The PPP chief said 10 years ago his family had filed a review petition against death penalty of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, but the judiciary could not yet seek pardon on its verdict which took life of “the first real leader of the country”. “If Zulfikar Bhutto could not be imparted justice then how come common men get justice,” he queried.
If Benazir Bhutto’s case could not be solved after so many years, then how could common men and women believe in our judiciary system, he wondered.
Bilawal blamed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman’s video was leaked to put pressure on him.
On Nov 1, PPP Chairman Bilawal had said neither media nor politics nor economy in Pakistan was free under the government of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
“What kind of freedom is it? Neither politics is free, nor journalism. Not only our government is selected, but our media is also selected,” Bilawal Bhutto had said while addressing a mammoth ‘Azadi March’ rally of the opposition parties led by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) in Islamabad.
