Sales tax on fruit import revoked

The sales tax on the imports of fresh fruit from Afghanistan has been revoked by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
In the meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), the decision regarding the abolition of sales tax on the import of fruits from Afghanistan was made.
FBR department has issued the notification and directed the Peshawar and Quetta’s custom collectors not to charge sales tax.

The decision was taken as a goodwill gesture by Pakistan towards Afghanistan.
Pomegranate, watermelon and other fruits will be imported into the country without any sales tax.
It should be mentioned that there was a 20% sales tax imposed on the import of fruits from Afghanistan.
