ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani has called on former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani at his residence in Islamabad and congratulated him on his victory in the Senate elections.
Yousaf’s son, Ali Haider Gilani, who is also alleged of offering money to senators in a bid to buy their votes, has tweeted a video in which Sanjrani can be seen enjoying a pleasant moment with Yousaf Gillani at his house.
On Mar 3, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Gillani was elected as a senator on the general seat by bagging 169 votes. While, the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf’s candidate Abdul Hafeez Sheikh was defeated after receiving 164 votes, in a big upset. Now Yousaf Gillani can become a candidate for the slot of Senate chairman. On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan had on Thursday announced that he would seek the vote of confidence from the parliament on March 6.
“I have no fear of losing my seat. Whether I am in the opposition or the government, I will not spare them. The PTI members who did not place trust in me should say it openly,” PM Imran had said while addressing the nation.
Meanwhile, PM Imran Khan has nominated Sadiq Sanjrani as the PTI’s candidate for the slot of chairman Senate.
The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad. It was attended by the senior PTI leadership and the chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani.
