Rouhani urges Americans to call on U.S. to lift sanctions as Iran fights coronavirus
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has asked the American people to pressure the US government to lift sanctions on Iran as the country fights COVID-19.

Rouhani said in a statement that U.S. sanctions targeted large sectors of Iran’s political and economic structure, causing hundreds of dollars of damage on the economy and citizens of Iran.

In the battle against the novel coronavirus, he said the US sanctions have drained Iran’s strength.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also announced on his Twitter account, saying Iran must be freed from sanctions in order to’ use its resources to save precious human lives.’

Iran’s health and medical education ministry said a total of 19,644 people were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, 1,433 of whom died.
