BAGHDAD: The Iraqi military has said rockets targeted Baghdad’s Green Zone near the United States embassy on Sunday.
Three rockets hit near Jadriya and two fell near the US diplomatic building. The incident took place hours after the US ambassador was summoned to condemn the attack that killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani.

Iraq’s heavily fortified Green Zone in the capital city houses government buildings, foreign embassies and the American diplomatic missions.
Law enforcers said six people were injured in the attacks.
Sources said another rocket had hit a house leaving four others injured outside the Green Zone.
Soleimani was killed on Jan 3 by the US military in an air strike outside Baghdad International Airport that stunned the Islamic Republic and raised fears of a new Middle East war.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that U.S. forces had killed the commander of its Quds Force foreign operations arm in an air strike at Baghdad International Airport on Friday.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei swiftly vowed “strong revenge” and declared mourning for three days.
