Right-wing youth activist Shaheer Sialvi was arrested as social media showed trends where people were demanding his release. In the latest development, he has been reportedly released after getting his bail accepted from District Court Lahore.
In an incident he delivered a speech outside Lahore’s Wazir Khan Mosque protesting ‘Dhamal’ being performed outside the mosque. The tradational dance was performed by celebrities: Shan Shahid and Ali Zafar while the federal minister Fawad Chaudhry was also spotted among them.
Disappointed by the move, Sialvi, who calls himself the president of State Youth Parliament (SYP), staged a protest outside the mosque on 19 February and made a speech condemning ‘the sanctity of the mosque being violated’.
Sialvi’s address outside the mosque was believed to be the reason behind his arrest.
People who follow Sialvi demanded his release with a hashtag campaign launched in his support.
