PESHAWAR: The department of Archaeology has started restoration work on the historical mosque, Mahabat Khan, in Peshawar.
The work began after approval of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan for restoration of the mosque in its original form on the principles of old Islamic and Mughlia designs.
Mahabat Khan mosque is counted among the oldest mosques in the region, while the building’s architecture is also outstanding. The mosque is named after a governor of Mughal era, Mahabat Khan (1660-1670).
The building does not only hold a historical status but it is also important because of historical agreements and regional consultations.
