Renowned Islamic scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi dies at 96
The Egypt based world’s most influential scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi died at the age of 96 in Qatar.
Egypt based well-known religious scholar, 96-year-old Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi lived in Qatar and was also the chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The death of the scholar was announced on his official Twitter account and his followers across the world expressed their grief.
Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi strongly criticised when the first Egypt’s elected democratic president, Mohamed Morsi, was overthrown and his government was seized by the army under the leadership of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi did not have the opportunity to return to Egypt after the overthrow of the regime of Mohammed Morsi because he was opposed to the regime of Egyptian military President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi had previously lived in exile before the 2011 revolution that toppled President Hosni Mubarak’s regime.
