Remembering Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on her 68th birthday

Today marks the 68th birth anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Benazir was daughter of a prominent politician and former prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. She was born on 21st June 1953 at Pinto’s Nursing Home in Karachi.
She was the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan who ruled from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996. She was the first woman to head a democratic government in a Muslim majority nation.
After completing early education, she moved abroad for higher studies. She graduated from Harvard University with a BA in comparative government studies. Later, she completed a course in international law and diplomacy from the Oxford University.
On December 18, 1987, Benazir Bhutto got married to Asif Ali Zardari.
While participating in a public gathering of the PPP in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, on 27 December 2007, three gunshots hit her. She was immediately rushed to Rawalpindi General Hospital and was declared dead on the arrival.
