The fourth death anniversary of Dr Ruth Katherina Martha Pfau is being observed on Tuesday (today).
Dr Ruth Pfau died on 10 August 2017, around 4:00 a.m at the Aga Khan University Hospital.
She was admitted on 4 August 2017 due to respiratory issue and later was was put on a ventilator on 6 August.
But, the doctors removed her from the ventilator as she asked them to do so.
Dr Ruth had several other health issues such as kidney and heart disease, for which she had been undergoing treatment for several years.
Moreover, She was a German–Pakistani Catholic nun of the Society of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary, and a physician. She moved from Germany to Pakistan in 1961.
Pfau had been honoured with the Hilal-i-Pakistan-, Hilal-i-Imtiaz-, Nishan-i-Quaid-i-Azam-, and the Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam award for her matchless and unconditional services to Pakistan.
The ‘Mother Teresa of Pakistan’ helped in establishment of 157 leprosy clinics across the country that treated more than 56,780 people. Fazaia Ruth Pfau Medical College and Dr Ruth Pfau Hospital are named after her in Karachi.
