KARACHI: Senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar on Tuesday said a reasonable budget should be given, if the government wanted to run the country.
“An announcement was made to waive off electricity bill, but the decision could not be implemented,” Farooq Sattar said while addressing a press conference in Karachi. He presented a budget proposal on this occasion.
He said he had given a budget proposal titled ‘COVID-19 Remedy 2020-21’. He said we have to protect ourselves from corona as well. He demanded major share of the budget to be allocated for the health sector at least for one year viewing the COVID-19 pandemic.
He asked the government to support people and they would support the economy again in return.
“We have low resources and less tax would be collected in the next year so it is a test for your management also,” he said.
The MQM-P leader said 2400 billion rupees relief should be given next year, if 1200 billion rupees relief was given last year.
On Jun 9, Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh had said that the federal budget 2020-21 to be presented on June 12 would be traders-friendly and comprise relief for masses.
He had said this while addressing a meeting of a delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry headed by Chairman BMG Siraj Qasim Teeli through video link. During the meeting, he had said that several suggestions of the KCCI were included in the upcoming budget.
Abdul Hafeez Sheikh had said despite limited resources and financial challenges the government stood by traders. He had said the government was providing maximum relief to trader fraternity during trying times. The government was considering to raise refunds from five million to 50 million rupees, he had maintained.
