Rawalpindi police establishes women harassment unit

RAWALPINDI: Women have gotten the opportunity to register complaints by remaining in their safe premises as Rawalpindi’s police department has established a separate Harassment Reporting Unit (HRU) for women which ensures that identity of the complainant is protected.
HRU aims to help and take legal action in the cases filed by the women who have been harassed at work places, homes, markets or shops.
According to Rawalpindi police, the complaint can be easily lodged by WhatsApp or direct call. Moreover, the unit will be led by Cantt ASP Amna Baig.
Police also apprised that an immediate action would be the taken on the harassment complaints. Female ASIs or SIs will visit the place where the harassment took place soon after receiving the complaint.
This is the first time in the history that an initiative has been taken to establish a harassment complaint unit at a police station in Pakistan.
