A Rape victim allegedly set herself ablaze and died outside Supreme court in India after being harassed by the accused accomplices
On August 16, the woman and her male friend did a Facebook live. During the live they sprinkled petrol and set themselves on fire.
Both of them travelled northern state of Uttar Pradesh to the capital, Delhi and commit ed the act outside India’s Supreme Court.
The man died on Saturday. However, the woman took her last breath on Tuesday.
According to the sources, the deceased woman was being harassed by the MP’s accomplices after she accused Atul Rai, an MP from the regional Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), of raping her at his home in Varanasi city in May 2019.
Atul Rai denied the accusation but sent to jail for a month after the complaint filed by the rape victim.
Last November, his brother registered a police complaint accusing the woman of forgery.
She had called the accusation “false” but earlier this month, a court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against her.
Earlier in 2020, Police in the Indian capital, New Delhi, have arrested a man for allegedly torturing and raping an 86-year-old woman.
Swati Maliwal, head of the Delhi Commission for Women, told the BBC that the elderly woman was attacked while she was waiting for a milkman outside her home.
According to the report, the assailant tried to take him to another place by telling him that his cowherd would not come today.
Swati Maliwal revealed that the man took her to a nearby farmhouse and tortured and abused her there.
After raping and torturing the body of a girl was cremated after ‘gang rape’. Swati Maliwal stated, the elderly woman shouted and said she was like her grandmother but the man left her and severely tortured and raped her.
Meanwhile, villagers passing by heard their screams and rescued them, while the assailant was also caught.
