Qaumi Jirga demands disintegration of merged tribal districts

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Qaumi Jirga (KQJ) has demanded to disintegrate the tribal districts from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Jirga was held by KQJ chief Malak Bismillah Khan in Jamrud, where the KQJ put forward their demand. The tribal elders of Khyber, Mohmand and Darra Adamkhel were present in the Jirga meeting.
According to Malak Bismillah Khan, the merger has resulted into backwardness and deprivation and labelled it as a “historic blunder”.
Moreover, the government has failed to fulfil the promises and commitments made prior to the implementation of the merger.
The KQJ chief said, “Both the federal and provincial governments are now backtracking on their promises of three per cent share in National Finance Commission, increase in share of jobs both at national and provincial level and above all bringing the impoverished region at par with the rest of the country in 10 years,”
However, Malak Razaq Afridi believed that the merger was intended to weaken the people of the region and to produce poverty.
Razaq said , “KQJ would soon launch a countrywide anti-merger campaign and would take all the stakeholders on board for a prompt repeal of the plan.”
