This season, the government of Punjab has procured four million metric tons of wheat, the most in the last ten years.
Punjab Food Minister Abdul Aleem Khan set an initial goal of 4.5 million metric tons to be procured. He has called a food department meeting on the issue.
Khan said he was going to know about “progress” from Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Pakistan, and Punjab in particular, has always been grappling with wheat crises. Thousands of tons of unlawfully stored wheat are seized in raids every week across the province.
The PM oversees the raids and investigations. He had assured that he is carrying out operations in every Punjab district and taking strict action against wheat hoarders and profiteers.
