Punjab govt removes Allama Iqbal’s sculpture, suspends two officials

LAHORE: The Punjab government has suspended two officials of Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), after noticing extreme backlash on Allama Iqbal’s sculpture in Gulshan e Iqbal Park, Lahore.

The authority issued a notification stating immediate suspension of Shah Nawaz Wattoo, the park’s Deputy Director Horticulture, and Assistant Director Horticulture Ghulam Sibtain.

Moreover, the sculpture has been removed from the park.

This should be noted that the sculpture of the ‘poet of the east’ Allama Iqbal was placed in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park about a year ago.

However, the sculpture generated an uproar on social media due to the dissimilarity of the statue with Allama Iqbal.
