Punjab govt rejects Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid on Tuesday rejected medical reports of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif expressing reservations on them.
“A medical report of Nawaz Sharif was sent on Dec 27, which contained nothing new. All the diseases mentioned in the letter were already known to us,” Dr Yasmin Rashid said while addressing a press conference after a picture of the ex-PM surfaced on social media showing him having meal at a London restaurant with his those party leaders who are his close relatives as well.

She said the medical board read the reports on Jan 3. If treatment of Nawaz Sharif could not be done in six weeks then it should be told that what happened during this all time, she said.
“After seeing the picture, I telephoned personal physician of the elder Sharif, Dr Adnan Khan, and asked him about the health condition, but he could not give a satisfactory answer,” she said.
The health minister stressed that Nawaz Sharif was a convict and the court had given him relief on medical grounds.
“We believe Nawaz Sharif is not getting any medical treatment. We have no idea what treatment he has been having,” she said adding that daughter of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) supremo wanted to go to look after him. “Will she look after him at the restaurant?”
The platelet situation of the patient was still dicey and it had turned into a chronic condition just like one had diabetics and blood pressure issues, she said.
Yasmin Rashid also asked the former ruling party on what basis it was seeking bail extension from the court for its party chief.
She relayed that the home department had written a letter to Nawaz Sharif apprising him that the medical reports were not sufficient to form any medical opinion, therefore the most recent reports should be provided in 48 hours.
