LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan on Friday announced a big financial aid package for the fraternity of journalists across the province.
Talking to media in Lahore, Fayyaz Chohan said the journalist who would contract coronavirus disease in the line of duty would be given one lac rupees and family of the one who would die of it would be given one million rupees. He said widow of the journalist, who would die of the viral infection, would get Rs10,000 every month for lifetime.
He said the Punjab government, under supervision of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, was taking measures for protection of journalists and ten journalists would be given excellence award for reporting on the pandemic.
The information minister said the newspaper hawkers would be given safety kits from Saturday (tomorrow). The safety gears and hand sanitisers would reach them through their unions, he added.
He acknowledged that labour segment was the most affected due to lockdown against coronavirus. He said next 22 days were extremely sensitive and dangerous.
