Punjab govt declare “Emergency” due to rise in Rape cases
Punjab Home Minister Attaullah Tarar said that the Punjab government had decided to declare an emergency amid a rapid increase of reported cases of sexual abuse against women and children.
Provincial Home Minister Ataullah Tarar while addressing a press conference said that the law and order situation has deteriorated since they came in the government and the number of rape cases have been increasing on a daily basis, adding that, in the last three and a half years, these cases have increased exponentially. We have decided to restore the Cabinet Committee.”
He said that the Cabinet Committee would review all the issues including law and order, civil society, teachers, lawyers and all the organizations working for women and children would be consulted.
On the occasion, Provincial Law Minister Malik Ahmad Khan said that the law and order situation is a matter of concern, elections are being held in 20 constituencies of Punjab, we will try to hold all by-elections in a peaceful manner.
He said that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure that arms and ammunition would not be allowed to be used under any circumstances.
