Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz denotified despite President’s resistance

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema was denotified on Tuesday after President Alvi’s rejection to approve Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s summary to remove him from the post.
According to sources, the notification signed by Senior Joint Secretary Cabinet Taimur Tajammal said that the Governor of Punjab was removed from office on the advice of the Prime Minister.

According to the notification, the Speaker Punjab Assembly will perform the duties of acting governor.
Punjab government sources said that security has been withdrawn from the Governor of Punjab after his removal.
Omar Sarfraz Cheema will not be allowed to enter the Governor House, Police sources said.
Earlier in the day, President Dr Arif Alvi had rejected the Prime Minister’s advice to remove Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema.
