ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approached Twitter administration to immediately sensitize its moderation teams and ensure that the platform is not used as a propaganda tool for spreading fake information.

According to a press release, in the wake of current smear campaign of spreading false and baseless information targeting Pakistan, the PTA has stressed upon Twitter to effectively block handles involved in the campaign.

The PTA asked Twitter to take immediate action against such accounts as per its guidelines and policies.

On Oct 19, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had decided to lift ban on TikTok social media application, 10 days after it imposed the ban.

The TikTok management had assured that it would block the accounts embroiled in producing obscene and immoral content.

“TikTok is being unlocked after assurance from management that they will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality,” it had said.
